As Founding Backend Engineer, you will build the backbone of our platform. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will design and implement serverless, scalable, and robust software—integrated with advanced AI—directly impacting performance and the experience of our customers.

- System architecture: Design and build scalable backend infrastructure using the Cloudflare development ecosystem and edge computing technologies.
- AI integration: Strengthen platform intelligence by leveraging LLMs (OpenAI, Gemini, and internal solutions).
- Local-first experience: Use tools such as Cloudflare Agents, Durable Objects, and Rocicorp's Zero sync engine for optimal performance.
- APIs and data: Build secure, efficient endpoints while managing SQL databases (Postgres, SQLite) with performance and scalability in mind.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with frontend, AI, and product teams to deliver a coherent user experience.
- Innovation: Continuously implement new tools and techniques that advance excellence in backend development.
- Extensive experience building and maintaining scalable, serverless backend systems.
- A development workflow that incorporates AI, tailored to how you work.
- Strong TypeScript skills and familiarity with edge computing architectures using Cloudflare Workers or similar technologies.
- Experience with SQL databases, including performance tuning and distributed scaling.
- A proven ability to build agentic solutions and contribute to frontend work when needed.
- A track record of success working remotely on distributed teams.
- Experience with vector databases or services (Chroma, Faiss, Turbopuffer, PGVector, etc.) and knowledge of different RAG strategies to leverage them.
- Familiarity with LLMs and frameworks (for example, Cloudflare Agents, LangChain, Haystack) to support AI-driven solutions.
- You're optimistic about the future of software and its impact in the post-AI era.

- Hands-on experience with the Cloudflare development ecosystem (Agents, Durable Objects, Workers, Workflows, D1, R2, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience through open source contributions, a solid technical portfolio, or research publications.
- Experience rapidly iterating on APIs and self-hosting AI models.
- Experience in compliance, legal tech, or regulated industries.
- Research publications.
